ON THE ISSUES

REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS:

Tran is “100% pro-choice” and opposes a national abortion ban.[viii] [ix] He would vote to codify the right to abortion in federal law.[x] He has pledged to “stand strong to protect funding for Planned Parenthood and access to critical women’s health services like birth control and cancer screenings.”[xi] Tran would support legislation that ensures women have access to fertility treatments like in vitro fertilization. [xii]

IMMIGRATION & BORDER SECURITY:

Tran opposes the idea of mass deportation, arguing it would be “inhumane” and “impractical” and would do nothing to solve “the underlying issues of our immigration system.” [xiii] He has advocated for comprehensive immigration reform “that strengthens border security through smart technology and improved border personnel training.”[xiv] He also supports modernizing the asylum process, ensuring that border agents have the resources necessary “to efficiently and humanely process migrant claims,” and creating a pathway to citizenship for DREAMers, farmworkers, and TPS holders.[xv] In Congress, Tran will support the reintroduction of the bipartisan border security bill that failed to pass in 2024.[xvi]

ECONOMY & JOBS:

Tran is “committed to standing with workers” and will fight for a living wage, safer working conditions, and to “ensure that all workers can afford housing and look forward to a secure retirement.” [xvii] He believes small businesses are “the backbone of our economy” and will work to “bring back more good-paying jobs in clean energy and advanced manufacturing to ensure we make things here in America and keep our shelves stocked.” [xviii] He supported the bipartisan infrastructure bill.[xix] Tran has said all workers should have the right to join a union and supports the PRO Act, which he has called “the first step toward making unions more accessible and giving workers a chance to negotiate for better wages, benefits and working conditions.”[xx] Notably, Tran has advocated for the U.S. becoming a “leader in developing new technologies,” including blockchain and cryptocurrency. [xxi]

TAXES:

Tran will work to cut taxes for the middle class and small businesses and has advocated for ending tax breaks for “corporate donors and special interests.” [xxii] He supports expanding the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and restoring the SALT tax deduction, arguing the cap implemented by the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act “has unfairly burdened middle-class families in high-cost states like California.” [xxiii]

CRIME & PUBLIC SAFETY:

Tran will work to put more police on the streets “to crack down on rising crime and put dangerous criminals in prison.” [xxiv] He also advocates for more investments in violence prevention and rehabilitation programs “to address the root causes of crime.” [xxv] Tran supported California’s Prop 36, the “Homelessness, Drug Addiction, and Theft Reduction Act,” calling it “a step toward restoring order and safety in our neighborhoods while also giving people a second chance through rehabilitation.” [xxvi]

CLIMATE CHANGE, ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT:

Tran has called for reducing our dependence on fossil fuel and investing more in renewable energy sources like wind and solar. [xxvii] He supports banning offshore drilling and implementing policies that incentivize clean energy development and hold polluters accountable. [xxviii] Tran has advocated for sustainable water management practices, including conservation, recycling, and making infrastructure improvements to ensure a reliable clean water supply.[xxix] In Congress, he will work to bring federal infrastructure funding back to California to create green energy jobs. [xxx]

FOREIGN POLICY:

In Congress, Tran would “honor” America’s commitment to support its allies, including supplemental emergency aid to Israel and Ukraine. [xxxi] He believes supporting allies in times of crisis “remains in our best interests as a country” and has argued that any military and financial aid to countries at war should promote “stability and democracy.” [xxxii] According to his campaign website, Tran “knows firsthand the devastating impact of totalitarian governments and is committed to standing firm against Chinese Communist rule.” [xxxiii] He will support measures to “counter Chinese aggression and expansionism, while also engaging in strategic diplomacy to protect American interests and strengthen alliances with our allies,” as well as advocate for policies that promote democracy, expand human rights, and protect freedom of expression. [xxxiv] Tran will also work to “bolster economic competitiveness, reduce reliance on Chinese supply chains, and safeguard against unfair trade practices.” [xxxv]

HEALTHCARE & SOCIAL SAFETY NET:

Tran believes healthcare “should be a right, not a privilege.” [xxxvi] In Congress, he will “take on the big insurance and pharmaceutical companies” to try to control the high cost of prescription drugs and will work to expand Medicare “so that everyone has access to quality, affordable health care.” [xxxvii] He opposes cutting Social Security and Medicare, and has advocated for allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices. [xxxviii] [xxxix]

DEMOCRACY:

Tran believes democracy is “under threat from Donald Trump and his MAGA allies” and will “fight to end this culture of corruption in our politics.” [xl] He has pledged to “strengthen voting rights for every American and defend our free and fair elections” from those “who want to overturn our democracy.” [xli] Tran also supports efforts to “limit the influence and power of lobbyists” and “strong campaign finance reforms and more transparency to stop corporations from buying elections.” [xlii] He believes U.S. Supreme Court Justices should be “held to a code of ethics” that requires them to place “all applicable assets” into blind trusts, prohibits them from accepting gifts, and implements a higher standard of scrutiny “for partisan actions they or their family members may be engaged in.” [xliii] He does not support expanding the U.S. Supreme Court, but is in favor of imposing term limits for justices. [xliv] Tran has also advocated for imposing an age limit on presidential candidates. [xlv] In Congress, he would support passing federal voting rights legislation and establishing stricter regulations regarding “deepfake technology” in relation to political advertising.[xlvi] [xlvii]

SOCIAL ISSUES:

In Congress, Tran will oppose efforts to discriminate against LGBTQ+ Americans. [xlviii]
