ON THE ISSUES

REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS:

Alsobrooks has promised, on her first day in office, to cosponsor the Women’s Health Protection Act, which she called “a crucial step towards establishing federal legal protection for the right to provide and access abortion care.” She opposed the overturning of Roe v. Wade, defunding Planned Parenthood, and “any judicial nominee who does not support abortion rights.” She said she believes that Congress and the Supreme Court should “respect women's health care decisions and leave them to be made between women and their doctors.” [v]

IMMIGRATION & BORDER SECURITY:

During the campaign, Alsobrooks noted that she will be a “strong advocate for comprehensive immigration reform to mend the broken immigration system.” To do so, she supports creating a pathway to citizenship for “those already living and working in the United States,” as well as programs such as The American Dream and Promise Act, which she said was “aimed at safeguarding the rights and future of DREAMers and TPS recipients.” [vi]

ECONOMY & JOBS:

Alsobrooks supports raising the minimum wage and “indexing any increase to inflation to ensure that families can keep up with the cost of living.” She is in favor of passing the PRO Act, which she believes will “strengthen workers' rights to collective bargaining and make it harder for corporations to prevent workers from organizing,” and she has said that she is a proponent of universal paid family and medical leave. [vii] She was in favor of investments via the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. [viii]

TAXES:

As a candidate, Alsobrooks reportedly said that she was in favor of a “fairer tax system,” and she opposed tax breaks for the wealthiest taxpayers. In a March 2024 X post, she promised, “As your senator, I will fight for a fairer tax system that doesn’t deliver handouts to the top 1%.” [ix][x]

CRIME & PUBLIC SAFETY:

As a former prosecutor, Alsobrooks has promised to work toward “proper funding” and “nationwide implementation of standards” to reform the criminal justice system, including holding police officers accountable for wrongdoing while bolstering trust in law enforcement. [xi]

CLIMATE CHANGE, ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT:

Of the belief that “urgent action” is needed on climate change, Alsobrooks has called on the federal government to aim to reduce 2005 emissions levels by 50% by 2030 and net zero by 2045. A supporter of “President Biden's efforts to address climate change, including the measures passed in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act,” she has said that she will be a “vocal advocate” of further tax credits for clean energy and government purchases that “align with emission goals.” She has also pledged to cosponsor the Polluters Pay Climate Fund Act, which she stated, “seeks to ensure that the largest contributors of fossil fuel emissions take responsibility by paying their fair share in mitigating the effects of climate change.” [xii]

FOREIGN POLICY:

Alsobrooks has said she believes in “diplomacy-first policies that align with American values and contribute to global peace.” She supports legislation that should be aimed at “imposing tough sanctions on nations that violate international law and abuse their citizens' human rights.” She is also in favor of “maintaining the strength of the U.S. military” and has pledged to be “vocal” in securing funding for defense. [xiii]

HEALTHCARE & SOCIAL SAFETY NET:

During the campaign, Alsobrooks advocated that health care is a “fundamental right,” and she stressed that every American should have access to “quality and affordable health care.” To expand on the Affordable Care Act, she supports strengthening Medicaid, providing a Medicare buy-in option, and capping out-of-pocket expenses for medical bills. [xiv]

DEMOCRACY:

According to her campaign website, Alsobrooks is “committed to fighting for the passage of critical legislation” like the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, which she said, “empowers the Department of Justice to enforce voting rights and prevents any right-wing legislature in the country from undermining those fundamental rights.” She also stated that she will sponsor legislation to expand voting rights, reform campaign finance laws, outlaw gerrymandering, and bolster ethics laws for federal elected officials. She has also called for ending the filibuster. [xv]

SOCIAL ISSUES:

Alsobrooks says that she will “stand up for the rights of LGBTQ+ Americans,” which she says includes “the right to marry, grow their families, and live free from discrimination.” She is opposed to “Republican efforts to undermine equality and promote discrimination including the recent wave of anti-trans legislation in some Republican led legislatures.” [xvi]
