ON THE ISSUES
REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS:
Evans is pro-life and opposes abortions funded by taxpayers; however, he does not support a national abortion ban. He supports the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act to prohibit taxpayer funding for abortions, with exceptions for rape, incest, and life-threatening situations. Evans plans to increase funding for research on women’s reproductive health, including issues concerning high-risk pregnancy, recurrent miscarriages, and maternal mortality. [vi]
IMMIGRATION & BORDER SECURITY:
Evans condemns the Biden administration for creating a “humanitarian and public policy crisis” at the Southern border by halting the completion of the border wall, ending the Remain in Mexico policy, and encouraging an open border. He alleges that the administration’s policies created a rise in fentanyl trafficking and cartel-driven crime. Leaning on his familial history as the grandson of Mexican immigrants, Evans argues that reforming the border crisis is not rooted in racism. He vows to continue construction on the Southern border wall, restore the Remain in Mexico policy, limit asylum claims to qualified migrants, increase border patrol agents and immigration judges, and create a pathway to legal immigration. [vii]
ECONOMY & JOBS:
Evans argues that the United States is experiencing a spending deficit that has caused inflation and increased the national debt. He advocates for reducing the budget deficit for long-term prosperity and shrinking “the size, scope, and cost of government.” Evan vows to support the American agriculture industry to prevent China from controlling food production. [viii]
TAXES:
Evans pledges to reduce inflation and taxes. He condemned Democrats and the Biden administration, arguing they have allowed “large welfare payments with no time limits” and placed the burden of student loan debt on taxpayers. Evans touts fighting against increases in taxes, fees, and regulations while serving in the Colorado state legislature. [ix]
CRIME & PUBLIC SAFETY:
Evans supports due process, fully funding police departments, and protecting police officers “when they do their jobs correctly.” He plans to enforce strict penalties on repeat violent offenders and fentanyl dealers while reversing “cashless bail” policies, arguing it puts “dangerous criminals back on the street.” Evans touts his experience of working as a police officer for over a decade and advocates for addressing homelessness through resources for mental health and substance abuse. [x]
CLIMATE CHANGE, ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT:
Evans advocates for an “all of the above” approach to energy policy, supporting oil, gas, nuclear, renewables, and geothermal without “subsidizing or favoring” companies. He argues that the Biden administration punished the oil and gas industry through expensive tax credits. Evans supports the Keystone XL Pipeline and vows to work against a moratorium on drilling. [xi]
FOREIGN POLICY:
Evans argues that the Biden administration has used the U.S. military for “social experimentation, woke virtue signaling, and politically correct agendas.” He advocates for a “flexible, lethal military focused on winning wars.” Evans plans to restore American leadership through policies that deter foreign adversaries and strengthen alliances with “good actor” countries like South Korea, Japan, and Australia. He opposes the U.S. allocating money to Iran, arguing the country has sponsored terrorism against Israel, an ally of the U.S. [xii]
HEALTHCARE & SOCIAL SAFETY NET:
Evans argues that under the Biden administration, health insurers have reduced coverage for Coloradan residents, while patients faced high costs and limited access to healthcare services. He advocates for policies like the “Gold Card” program, which reduces costs and delays in treatment by allowing medical providers to forgo pre-authorization procedures. He touts fighting for increased healthcare access to residents in rural communities and has committed to reducing costs and improving healthcare nationwide. Evans has also vowed to vote in favor of protecting social security. [xiii]
DEMOCRACY:
During an October 2024 candidate debate, Evans displayed uncertainty when questioned if the 2020 presidential election was stolen from Donald Trump and compared the January 6 attack to the 2020 George Floyd protests. He later clarified his position on election denialism, arguing that every legal vote should be counted and noted that he accepts the result of elections. [xiv]
SOCIAL ISSUES:
As a teenager, Evans wrote a letter to the editor of the Colorado Community Media opposing same-sex marriages. He suggested that same-sex marriage would create a precedent of polygamy, incest, pederasty, and bestiality. The letter also questioned why the rates of suicide and AIDS were higher among homosexual individuals. [xv] In a later interview with The Colorado Sun, Evans clarified that his views have changed, noting that he does not support a ban on same-sex marriage. He supported a Colorado ballot measure that removes same-sex marriage prohibitions from the state’s constitution and the Respect for Marriage Act that requires federal recognition of same-sex and interracial marriages.
