ON THE ISSUES

REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS:

McClain Delaney describes herself as an “unwavering supporter of reproductive rights and women’s right to an abortion.” [iv] She has pledged to co-sponsor the Women’s Health Protection Act and supports codifying Roe v. Wade into law. [v]  

IMMIGRATION & BORDER SECURITY:

An advocate for “strong, effective, and humane” immigration reform, McClain Delaney says she supports the bipartisan border agreement that failed in the last Congress, citing its supplemental appropriations to border security and new technology to detect fentanyl. [vi]

ECONOMY & JOBS:

On her campaign website, McClain Delaney calls for “critical investments” in education, health care, and retirement, as well as raising the minimum wage with an index for inflation. She also calls for public-private investment to address the affordable housing shortage, limiting credit card and junk fees, and building on the Inflation Reduction Act and infrastructure bills. TAXES:

McClain Delaney supports increasing the Child Tax Credit and “middle class tax relief,” and opposes “tax giveaways for the wealthy and connected.” [viii] [ix]

CRIME & PUBLIC SAFETY:

McClain Delaney campaigned on addressing gun and domestic violence, including through universal background checks and limits on assault weapons. [x] [xi] She was endorsed by several top Montgomery County law enforcement officials. [xii]

CLIMATE CHANGE, ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT:

Describing climate change as an “existential threat,” McClain Delaney calls for protecting the Inflation Reduction Act, increasing research in climate science, pricing carbon, creating new incentives to drive technological advances, and scaling investments in industries that need to be decarbonized. She supports expanding renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure. [xiii]

FOREIGN POLICY:

McClain Delaney supports the “post WWII model of global economic engagement, diplomatic outreach, U.S. leadership of important alliances like NATO, foreign aid and, of course, a strong military.” She has supported military aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, describing herself as an “unwavering supporter of Israel’s right to defend itself and of the unbreakable bond between our nations.” [xiv]

HEALTHCARE & SOCIAL SAFETY NET:

McClain Delaney’s platform includes protecting and building on the Affordable Care Act, investing in NIH research, and allowing the government to negotiate drug prices. [xv] She opposes cuts to Social Security. [xvi]

McClain Delaney supports the For the People Act and the John Lewis Act, warning that “our elections [are] under attack by MAGA extremists.” [xvii]
