ON THE ISSUES

REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS:

Morrison supports allowing women to “make their own health care decisions without interference from the government.” During her time in the Minnesota legislature, she says she helped “lead the effort to pass a comprehensive legislative package protecting reproductive rights in Minnesota.” She has pledged to be a pro-choice representative who will be “a strong voice for protecting reproductive rights across the country.”[v]

IMMIGRATION & BORDER SECURITY:

Of the belief that the U.S. immigration system is “broken,” Morrison has called on Congress to “take action to fix it.” She supports “comprehensive immigration reform” to “strengthen border security, provide a pathway to citizenship, including for DREAMers, and reform our visa system.” Morrison is also in favor of giving the President “emergency powers to secure the border and give law enforcement more tools to stop fentanyl from entering this country.”[vi]

ECONOMY & JOBS:

During the campaign, Morrison called for a “robust” economy with lower housing and childcare costs. She has called for investing in “innovation, infrastructure and entrepreneurship,” and she supports greater training for workers “for the jobs of tomorrow.” Morrison is pro-union.[vii]

TAXES:

As a candidate, Morrison advocated for a “tax system that ensures opportunity for all.”[viii] In July 2021, she touted tax legislation that she said expanded “the working family tax credit” and provided “aid to counties to prevent family homelessness.”[ix] Morrison has also sought to give property tax relief for “middle income homeowners.”[x]

CRIME & PUBLIC SAFETY:

Morrison has supported legislation providing $300 million “in aid to local law enforcement, including police, fire and 911 departments, and she also co-authored legislation to crack down on violent carjackings.” She has called for investing in “crime prevention” so “young people can live up to their potential and lead satisfying and productive lives.”[xi]

CLIMATE CHANGE, ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT:

Morrison has called for protecting Minnesota’s water and has touted that she “championed legislation to protect our lakes from invasive species and to protect the Boundary Waters from copper sulfide mining.” To protect against extreme weather, she has advocated for “swift action to tackle climate change and plan mitigation strategies.” She supports the creation of clean energy jobs.[xii]

FOREIGN POLICY:

Morrison has argued that “protecting our nation from foreign threats must be one of the federal government’s top priorities,” and to do so has called for “ensuring we have a strong military, bolstering our cybersecurity, and fostering alliances with global partners to counter adversaries.” She supports Ukraine, the U.S.-Israel alliance, and she has advocated for “the United States [to] do everything it can to bring about an immediate ceasefire and an end to the violence, bring home the remaining hostages, get humanitarian aid to innocent civilians in Gaza, and work towards a two-state solution.”[xiii]

HEALTHCARE & SOCIAL SAFETY NET:

A practicing physician, Morrison believes that “All Minnesotans deserve quality, affordable health care.” She has advocated for lowering health care costs, including passing legislation to lower prescription drug prices such as insulin. She has sought to “address racial disparities” in maternal health care and she has touted that she “successfully extended health insurance for new moms on Medicaid from just 60 days to 12 months.” Morrison has also promised to protect Medicare and Social Security “to ensure that people can live in dignity in their senior years,” and she has called for improving access to mental health care.[xiv]

DEMOCRACY:

According to her campaign website, “one of the most important issues facing our state is protecting democracy and ensuring that all eligible voters are able to exercise their right to vote and to have their vote counted.” Morrison supports several reforms, including “instituting a popular vote, protecting against political gerrymandering, and ranked choice voting.” As a member of the Minnesota legislature, she helped pass legislation that permitted automatic voter registration, among several voting rights reforms. She did not accept campaign contributions from “corporate PACs or federal lobbyists,” and she has said that she is “committed to getting dark money out of politics.”[xv]

SOCIAL ISSUES:

Morrison supports LGBTQ rights, fighting “systemic and institutional racism,” supporting those with disabilities, and combatting religious discrimination such as antisemitism and Islamophobia.[xvi]
