ON THE ISSUES

REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS:

A pro-choice candidate, Slotkin has received a 100% score from Reproductive Freedom for All. As a Member of Congress, she cosponsored the Women’s Health Protection Act and the Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act.[iv]

IMMIGRATION & BORDER SECURITY:

In 2024, Slotkin argued, regarding border security, “We need to make it easier to come here in vetted, legal immigration channels, rather than to walk over the border walking 1,000 miles.”[v] She has said the current status of the southern border is “a symptom of a broken immigration system,” and she was in favor of recent border legislation that would have added more border agents and asylum officers.[vi]

ECONOMY & JOBS:

To take “control of our own economic security,” Slotkin advocates for making more “critical items” in the United States. She supports the CHIPS Act, which she said will lead to “manufacture[ing] microchips in the U.S. and protect[ing] Michigan’s auto industry.” She also was in favor of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which she said would “rebuild our roads, bridges, and water infrastructure while creating tens of thousands of good-paying, union jobs across Michigan.” As a Senator, she has promised to “work every day to bring critical supply chains and manufacturing back home.”[vii]

TAXES:

During the campaign, Slotkin noted that she supported expanding the Child Tax Credit and the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit.[viii] She has called for a tax policy “that keeps more money in your pocket.”[ix] In 2024, she introduced legislation to “eliminate tax deductions given to pharmaceutical companies for advertising directly to consumers.”[x]

CRIME & PUBLIC SAFETY:

Slotkin supported the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, and she voted in favor of legislation that she said would “provide support to law enforcement through funding for training, recruitment, and mental health services, while also creating grant programs to fight violent crime and recruit, train and dispatch mental health professionals.”[xi] [xii]

CLIMATE CHANGE, ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT:

Slotkin has advocated for taking “aggressive steps to mitigate the effects of climate change” and has said she supports expanding clean energy jobs. She has called for prioritizing “U.S. energy security,” including an “all-of-the-above approach to energy resilience, from U.S. supplies to alternative energy, including nuclear power & everything in between.”[xiii][xiv]

FOREIGN POLICY:

Slotkin has called for supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russia, stating that she is “’committed to doing all we can to make sure that Ukrainian culture, art, literature, and, most importantly, people survive in Ukraine itself.”[xv][xvi] As a Member of Congress, regarding the Israel-Gaza conflict, Slotkin said she was “engaging diligently with local faith leaders and stakeholders to make sure voices on all sides are heard.”[xvii]

HEALTHCARE & SOCIAL SAFETY NET:

Slotkin has advocated that all Americans should have access to affordable healthcare, “regardless of pre-existing conditions.” She has touted that she “has taken the fight to Big Pharma and helped pass legislation to make prescription drug prices more transparent that is coming into force in early 2023, and fought to pass laws that capped the cost of insulin for seniors, and allowed Medicare to negotiate for lower drug prices.”[xviii]

DEMOCRACY:

According to her campaign website, while in office, Slotkin has prioritized “defending and expanding voting rights, civil rights, LGBTQ rights, and women’s rights.” She has called for reforms to “the very political system we use to elect our leaders,” and she touted that she did not take “corporate PAC money” during the campaign. She opposes allowing Members of Congress to trade stocks.[xix]

SOCIAL ISSUES:

Slotkin supported new regulations that expanded prohibited discrimination to encompass sexual orientation and gender identity, arguing they were important to protecting LGBTQ+ students from harassment and discrimination.[xx]
