ON THE ISSUES
REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS:
McCormick is pro-life, opposed to a national abortion ban, and supports exceptions in the cases of rape, incest, and saving the life of the mother. [iv] McCormick supported the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision on Roe v. Wade but now has stated that he believes voters – not courts – get to decide whether a state will protect the right to an abortion. [v]
IMMIGRATION & BORDER SECURITY:
McCormick intends to fight to secure the border, put an end to drug and human trafficking, and support border patrol agents. He has blamed the Biden administration for “failed border policies” he believes has led to Pennsylvanians “paying for healthcare, schooling, housing, food, you name it, for people who don’t pay taxes as dangerous drugs cross our border and women and children become victims to trafficking.” [vi]
ECONOMY & JOBS:
McCormick has touted his background as a CEO while discussing his plans to create hundreds of Western Pennsylvania jobs and eliminate wasteful spending. He plans to “rein in government spending, oppose tax increases, and exercise fiscal responsibility to lessen the burden on the people of the Commonwealth.” [vii]
TAXES:
McCormick supports extending the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, eliminating taxes on tips, and maintaining the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction cap. [viii]
CRIME & PUBLIC SAFETY:
McCormick made a “Day One” promise to ensure local law enforcement has the tools, funding, and legal protections they need to do their jobs. [ix]
CLIMATE CHANGE, ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT:
McCormick believes it is necessary to “unleash” Pennsylvania’s natural resources to become an “energy superpower.” He has been critical of Democratic energy and climate initiatives, characterizing it as “an anti-fossil fuel agenda that constrains energy production and infrastructure, raises costs, makes us more dependent on the Chinese Communist Party, and kills manufacturing jobs.” He plans to remove constraints on oil and gas production, embrace an “all-of-the-above” energy approach that “provides market-driven support to clean energy alternatives,” including nuclear, and leverage resources as a source of geopolitical strength. [x]
FOREIGN POLICY:
McCormick has stated that “China poses the gravest threat to our security and well-being since the end of World War II.” McCormick wants to institute a ban of Chinese fentanyl ingredients and drug money from the Western Hemisphere, “ban China from realizing the benefits of normal trade relations,” ban energy policies that make America reliant on China, ban “any U.S. investment or trade that supports the CCP’s national security state,” remove China from the World Health Organization, and ban strategic purchases of American land by members of the CCP. [xi]
HEALTHCARE & SOCIAL SAFETY NET:
McCormick has been vocal about supporting the healthcare of veterans, including mental healthcare. He is also a proponent of bypassing a balanced budget amendment while protecting Social Security and Medicare benefits. [xii]
DEMOCRACY:
McCormick has stated he believes in “protecting the integrity of the Senate through preserving the filibuster.” He believes that there needs to be a check on simple majority news. [xiii] He has been critical of what he has called an attempt by Democrats to “enact a sweeping, federal takeover of elections that erases common sense requirements like presenting a photo ID to vote, requiring that ballots be in by Election Day, and ensuring adequate observers and oversight before and during the election.” [xiv]
SOCIAL ISSUES:
McCormick wants to “combat the rise of liberal extremism” by ending "all taxpayer-funding for diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly in our military, and by making federal funding for U.S. universities contingent on stamping out antisemitism.” He also wants to expand access to school choice and ban social media access for children under 16 years old.
