ON THE ISSUES
REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS:
Moskowitz is pro-choice and has opposed attempts to restrict abortion rights in Florida, including bills that would amend the definition of fetal viability and establish penalties for killing or injuring a fetus.[vii] [viii] When the draft US Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade was leaked in May 2022, he immediately called on the US Senate to bypass the filibuster and codify abortion rights into federal law.[ix]
ECONOMY, JOBS & TAXES:
Moskowitz believes rising inflation is “just one barrier” to the economic success of families in the US. He is committed to taking action to lower the cost of living and reduce inflation. In Congress, he will work to lower gas prices, provide more federal funding for workforce housing, and protect renters.[x] Moskowitz also advocates for developing financial innovations and new technologies to advance economic justice, increase accessibility to new opportunities, and make financial policies more inclusive. He supports a federal minimum wage indexed to inflation and the cost of living in order to ensure all working people receive a living wage.[xi] He also supports creating a “more secure and competitive digital marketplace” that incorporates cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies.[xii]
HEALTHCARE & SOCIAL SAFETY NET:
In Congress, Moskowitz will fight to expand Medicare, protect Social Security, expand the ACA, and reduce prescription drug costs.[xiii] He will also prioritize vaccine research, biosecurity for gene synthesis, proper safety protocols, supply chain issues, PPE production, and pandemic-proof infrastructure as ways to mitigate COVID-19 and help prevent the next pandemic.[xiv]
IMMIGRATION & BORDER SECURITY:
Moskowitz believes it is important for the US to offer protection for individuals fleeing persecution and political strife and applauded the Biden administration’s decision to extend Temporary Protected Status to Venezuelan expatriates.[xv] In Florida, he voted against a bill that would require local governments to enforce federal immigration regulations.[xvi]
CRIME & PUBLIC SAFETY:
Moskowitz believe we “desperately need” criminal justice reform and is committed to fighting for change at the federal level.[xvii] He supports decriminalizing simple marijuana possession and praised President Biden’s decision to pardon all such convictions.[xviii] In Florida, Moskowitz voted for measures that would prohibit mandatory sentencing for certain aggravated assault convictions and limit post-conviction death penalty appeals.[xix] Notably, after the Parkland school shooter was sentenced to life in prison, Moskowitz said the decision was “unacceptable” and called for his execution.[xx]
GOVERNMENT INSTITUTIONS & ELECTION SECURITY:
Moskowitz has said his top priority is to “defend our democracy, because if we fail to do so, no other priority is possible.”[xxi] He argues that former President Trump and “extremist Republicans” have sought to “disenfranchise voters, weaken democratic institutions, undermine the rule of law and sow unfounded doubts about the legitimacy of our electoral system and processes.”[xxii] Notably, he refused to debate his 2022 Republican opponent, dismissing him as an election denier and QAnon conspiracist who believes Trump won the 2020 election.[xxiii] Moskowitz believes voter registration and vote-by-mail should be universal and supports the For the People Act.[xxiv] In Congress, he will work to increase election security, advocate for reforms to end gerrymandering and ensure minority representation, make Election Day a national holiday, and standardize the process by which elections are certified.[xxv] He has questioned the legitimacy of the current US Supreme Court, arguing we cannot allow rights to be “trampled by Republicans’ stolen Supreme Court majority they achieved by changing the rules and refusing to confirm Merrick Garland.”[xxvi] He has opposed implementing judicial term limits in Florida and is “not ready to fully support” a proposal that would expand the US Supreme Court to 13 members..[xxvii] [xxviii]
EDUCATION:
Moskowitz will fight to expand school funding, increase teacher pay, and improve school safety.[xxix] In Florida, he voted against a measure that would expand the state’s school voucher program.[xxx]
CLIMATE CHANGE, ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT:
Moskowitz believes we are living through a “climate crisis that threatens our way of life” and that we need to create a sustainable world for future generations.[xxxi] [xxxii] In Congress, he will fight for policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, transition the US to clean energy alternatives, protect the environment, and improve resiliency.[xxxiii] While serving on the Parkland City Commission, Moskowitz advocated for direct payments to incentivize residents to transition to green technologies like electric vehicles and solar panels.[xxxiv]
BIG TECH & DATA PRIVACY:
Moskowitz advocates for creating a new mechanism to “punish willful behavior to spread misinformation on the part of communication and social media entities” and empower federal agencies to combat this type of interference.[xxxv]
GUN SAFETY:
Moskowitz championed the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act in Florida and worked to enact gun safety legislation that raised the age to buy firearms to 21 and put red flag laws in place.[xxxvi] [xxxvii] In Congress, he will work to ban assault weapons and ghost guns.[xxxviii] [xxxix] He opposes constitutional carry and sent a letter to former Florida Governor Rick Scott in 2018 asking him to issue an executive order banning 3D-printed guns.[xl] [xli] [xlii] While serving in the Florida House of Representatives, he voted against bills that would authorize open carry and permit certain individuals to carry concealed firearms on school property.[xliii] Moskowitz received an “F” rating from the NRA and has been endorsed by Everytown for Gun Safety, Moms Demand Action, Giffords PAC, and Brady PAC.[xliv] [xlv] [xlvi]
FOREIGN POLICY:
Moskowitz condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and has described Vladimir Putin as a “thug” and “war criminal.”[xlvii] He has called on the US to continue to provide aid to Ukraine.[xlviii] Notably, Moskowitz has said he would oppose any version of a nuclear deal with Iran that “benefits Russia and Putin.”[xlix]
